136 Diffusion Tensor Imaging for the Assessment of Cord Compression in Degenerative Cervical Stenosis.

This study aims to test the value of diffusion tensor (DT) magnetic resonance (MR) imaging and fractional anisotropy (FA) mapping in detection of early cord dysfunction due to cervical spondilotic myelopathy before myelopathy is apparent on T2 weighted MR images Methods Totally 21 patients with neurological signs and symptoms of degenerative cervical stenosis enrolled in the study. None of the ...

Cervical intramedullary spinal cord lipoma

Background Intramedullary, nondysraphic, spinal cord lipomas are rare and account for less than 1% of all spinal cord lesions. Symptoms typically consist of a progressive myelopathy associated with increasing degrees of paralysis (e.g., quadriparesis/plegia, paraparesis/plegia). Case Description A 39-year-old male, without a history of spinal dysraphism, presented with a progressive spastic q...

Central motor and sensory conduction in adrenoleukomyeloneuropathy, cerebrotendinous xanthomatosis, HTLV-1-associated myelopathy and tabes dorsalis.

Central motor and sensory conduction was studied by percutaneous electrical stimulation of brain and spinal cord and by somatosensory evoked potential techniques respectively, in patients with adrenoleukomyeloneuropathy, cerebrotendinous xanthomatosis, human T-cell lymphotropic virus-1-associated myelopathy and tabes dorsalis. The results were all consistent with clinical and neuropathological ...

Dose Measurements of Parotid Glands and Spinal Cord in Conventional Treatment of Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma Using RANDO Phantom and Thermoluminescent Dosimeters

Introduction Radiotherapy is regarded as the first treatment of choice for nasopharyngeal carcinoma. Despite the advantages of radiotherapy, patients may suffer from a wide range of side-effects due to the presence of many sensitive normal tissues in these regions. If the absorbed dose exceeds the tolerance level in parotid glands and the spinal cord, myelopathy, Lhermitte's sign and xerostomia...

Somatosensory conduction times and peripheral, cervical and cortical evoked potentials in patients with cervical spondylosis.

Peripheral, cervical and cortical somatosensory evoked potentials after median or ulnar nerve stimulation were recorded in 21 patients with cervical spondylosis with radiculopathy or myelopathy. The test was normal when pain and paraesthesias were the only symptoms, while pathological in radiculopathy with objective neurological signs. The results varied in patients with cervical myelopathy.
